Backyard Fun: Family Activities for Spring
With the weather warming up, it’s time to get your family outside! We’ve rounded up some of our favorite outdoor activities that the whole family can enjoy:
Make gardening a fun, family hobby by involving everyone. Spend some time planning out which flowers, plants or vegetables each member of your family wants to plant. Once planted, everyone is responsible for their own plant throughout the summer. You can even add a friendly contest by seeing whose plant grew the most, who worked the hardest on their plant, or whose didn’t make it through the season. It’s a great activity that teaches gardening skills and improves your backyard.
2. Obstacle Races
Get outside and get moving! Set up 2 or 3 obstacles and use a stopwatch to time everyone’s run. Some ideas for obstacles include jumping over pool toys, driveway hopscotch, jumping rope, and crawling under the Springfree Trampoline. The best part of this activity is that you can tailor it to your family. Let’s say you have a gymnast star, add in a cartwheel challenge. The options are endless!
3. Backyard Photography
Grab your camera (or even disposable cameras) and do a photography scavenger hunt in the backyard. Choose a subject, like a green leaf, and your family will take a handful of photos of that subject. Give out awards for the most creative, best framed, and craziest photo. You can even frame your photos afterwards for unique and homemade wall art.
