Father’s Day…Do you know how the day originated?

I look forward to Fathers Day every year. Take Dad out for a breakfast give him his new socks for the year and toast to a great dad that has given us kids every opportunity in life. But I am embarrassed to admit that I have no idea how Fathers Day came about.

So in light of this Sunday I made it my mission to find out.

The idea for creating a day for children to honor their fathers began in Spokane, Washington. A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd thought of the idea for Father’s Day while listening to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1909.

She was raised by her father after her mother died and Sonora wanted her father to know how special he was to her. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man.

I’m THAT one in my family that is known for bad present buying. So I did some asking around early this year to all the fathers here in the Springfree™ Trampoline AU office and this is what they thought might be a nice idea for fathers day..

The Norm….

  • Socks
  • Boxers
  • Pyjama’s

A little bit different….

  • Zoo Tickets (so you can share the day togetherJ)
  • A massage
  • Anything from Bunning’s!
  • A golf day

Straight from the heart….

  • Personalised photo frame decorated by the kids
  • A poem
  • Breakfast in Bed
  • Make a video about the ‘best Dad in the world’

OR you can check out our page tomorrow as we will be doing a nice little competition to celebrate Father’s Day. Just like we did for Mothers Day

2010 ANZ Tour de Kawana Cystic Fibrosis Charity Cycle

Sunday 22 August, from 7:30am

This cause has a very special place in our hearts, as our Finance and Administration Manager, Leanne has beautiful step daughter with Cystic Fibrosis.

This event is now in its 5th year, being the premiere charity cycling and amateur criterium race on the Sunshine Coast, raising much needed funds for Cystic Fibrosis Queensland.

It will be held on the Eastbank Foreshore on the scenic Lake Kawana and will feature the Family Charity Cycle, Experienced Riders event along with a live broadcast from Hot 91 with many after event activities planned. This is includes us! We can’t wait to be there providing safe jumps for all the kids (and big kids!).

As I mentioned before the The Charity Cycle raises funds for Cystic Fibrosis Queensland – a not-for-profit organisation that provides emotional, financial and physical support to over 800 children and adults affected by cystic fibrosis, and their families.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common life threatening genetic condition in Australia – and there is no cure. Cystic Fibrosis Queensland receives limited funding from government, and relies on events like the ANZ Tour de Kawana Cystic Fibrosis Charity Cycle to raise the funds to continue providing support to families affected by CF.

We hope to see you all there!

A cause worth climbing for…

We love supporting causes in the community where people walk the walk. And Springfree™ Trampoline friend Joe Lopino is doing just that in his climb ahead in support of the Mont Blanc Project.

‘The AHG Adventurers’ launched ‘The Mont Blanc Project 2010’, as a fundraiser for Childhood Cancer patients at Perth’s Princess Margaret Hospital, Ward 3B, The Total Care Unit.

Lead by Perth based businessmen Rick Parish and Peter Wilson the objective is to reach the summit of Mont Blanc in France. It’s a tough, challenging and physically demanding climb but it pales by comparison to what many children and their families go through every day in Ward 3B, Princess Margaret Hospital.

The Mont Blanc Project 2010 – A Climb for Childhood Cancer involves people from all walks of life committed to making a difference to children and families, alike, suffering from cancer.

One of these climbers is Joe Lopino who we have a close business affiliation with in his role at Direct Freight express. Let’s get behind him and donate to his climb here…

Tweetathon For Tanner

Undefined

Hi All,

We wanted to share a story that has struck a chord with us here at Springfree Trampoline.

We are supporting a fundraiser tomorrow for a young boy with degenerative Muscular Dystrophy named Tanner. We share this in hope others may be able to help – by getting involved or even sharing the story.

ABOUT TANNER

Tanner’s story is best told by his Aunt… please read Tanner’s story here: http://herbadmother.com/tanner/

A cure for Tanner’s muscular dystrophy will not be found in his life time, so tomorrow’s fundraiser is to help renovate the basement in Tanner’s home so he can spend the time he has left with family.

As Tanner’s condition worsens his needs will become more complex – something his single mom won’t be able to deal with, and could result in him being relocated to a specialist home.

Tanner’s aunt is trying to raise $25,000 to convert Tanner’s basement into a space that will allow him and his mom to fulfill this wish to stay at home.

ABOUT THE FUNDRAISER

We recently heard through our friend and social marketing expert Scott Stratten (@unmarketing) about his Fundraiser in support of Tanner. The “Tweetathon” (Scott will be broadcasting the fundraiser from Twitter), runs tomorrow Wednesday August 4th, will run for 12 hours until 9pm EST.

For every $10 donated you can have one entry into a prize raffle to win a huge range of prizes. One of those prizes is a Springfree Trampoline from us.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to be on Twitter to get involved, you can find all the information right here: http://bit.ly/Tweetathon

WHY WE’RE TALKING ABOUT IT

When we first read Tanner’s story we were amazed. We wanted to help straight away, no questions asked.

We enjoy making kids and their parents smile through our products. That’s why we wanted to get involved tomorrow in helping raise this money for Tanner and his family.

We want to help raise enough money to put a smile on a brave boy’s face – and hope by sharing we can make that happen.

On a high in the Sunshine Coast Daily talking about our Australian Business Award!

You generally don’t see too much of me, as I much prefer to be behind the camera but what better reason to jump in celebration of our recent Australian Business Award win for Product Innovation.
