The age ole debate continues…Who’s a better driver – males or Females?

Undefined

Mum Driving

Well according to the Kids of Britain, they feel safer when mum is driving. A survey has found 6 out of 10 children aged five to 16 are happier and more relaxed when their mother is driving.

Why? Well apparently the kid’s think dad drives too fast, is more aggressive and loses his temper too quickly. Mum on the other hand is less likely to suffer road rage, doesn’t dodge in and out of traffic and is more considerate of others.

But what I love most about the findings is that even though children believe dads have more accidents, mums were most likely to get lost, stall the car & have difficulty parking. Parents just can’t win!

Have you ever asked your kids who they think the better driver is? Let us know what they say…

In a Far Away Land, Grandma can put the kids to bed……

Do your kids love bedtime stories from Grandma and Grandad? But do the Grand’s live afar?

Well ‘A Story Before Bed’ has the solution.

www.astorybeforebed.com

This website allows them to record audio and video of themselves reading children’s stories, synchronized to the pages of an on-screen book.

You can simply choose a story from their library and then record it using your webcam.

storybedforebed

Seems easy enough but if your parents are anything like mine, just getting them to open the ‘Inbox’ can sometimes prove a little difficult.

Recording a bedtime story is free, and the service charges USD 6.99 if you want to save the recording and forward the story link to your family.

This is not only great for Grandparents but also parents who travel away for work. Nothing beats live story telling but hey it’s great to have the option up your sleave!

Do you think your family would use a website like this?

Mothers, do you need more ZZZZs?

sleepyhead_zzz_sleeping_sticker-p217605557908976893tdcj_210

Research conducted by Pampers Nappies Sleep Report in conjunction with Tresillian Family Care Centers has found that almost every mum with children aged under two-years-old has suffered sleep deprivation.

Not only does it make one irritable, but things often always seem just a little bit harder without a good night’s sleep. So what can mothers do?

The IBT Health website (http://au.ibtimes.com/contents/20100426/sleep-routine-young-mothers-anxi...) reckons the key is to immediately establish a predictable routine.

Professor Cathrine Fowler, spokeswoman for Tresillian said “One of the things that a parent can do to ensure their baby gets a decent amount of sleep is to check their environment is conducive for sleep – that includes ensuring you change their dirty nappy before they go to bed to avoid them waking with a leaking nappy,” she said.

“New mothers should try to establish a regular sleep pattern for their baby immediately as possible”, said Prof Fowler.

Other findings from the research include:

  • Lack of sleep is affecting mothers ability to enjoy quality time with their baby
  • A quarter of mothers with a child under two admitted a lack of sleep was making them feel unable to cope with life
  • One in three of the 1000 Mothers surveyed said sleep deprivation was putting a strain on their relationships.

Does this sound familiar? What tips do you have as mothers to get a good night’s sleep?

Nasty Nets. The BIG differece between Springfree Trampoline Nets and others….

The Matty Johns show has gone in leaps and bounds since its first nerve racking, hard-to-watch episode just a few weeks ago and Controversy Corner was in its prime last night debating NRL’s biggest scandal of its history.

But whilst others were still reveling in this news I moved on to the Segment where Titans players, Nathan Friend and Greg Bird jumped on a dangerous style Trampoline in the ‘Home While Your Away’ skit.

Joyously jumping, Nathan lost balance and landed into the net. What the net was meant to do was protect him from falling to the ground. INSTEAD the net ripped open from one side to the other, making him hold on for dear life. He is not a little man I know, but this just goes to show the danger of el cheapo nets!

Comparison

A lot of people mistake Springfree™Trampoline simply as the ‘ones with the nets’, but there is a huge difference to put it lightly so I thought I would take this opportunity to distinguish the difference.

Springfree™ Trampoline patented FlexiNet™ enclosure has flexible supports to cushion jumpers and prevent falls.
Our FlexiNet™ is designed to be impact absorbing, flexing and guiding wayward jumpers back to the centre of the trampoline instead of directing them down onto the edge.

leaning_into_net2

The jumper cannot make contact with the flexi rods. Traditional enclosures MAY stop jumpers falling off if it doesn’t rip, but in doing so, either direct them into rigid steel poles or straight down onto the springs and frame.

Springfree™ Trampoline uses unique “raschel” knitting technology. Unlike old style enclosure nets, small holes or cuts do not ‘run’ into large tears.

The Springfree FlexiNet is also zippered to ensure jumpers can’t fall through the opening, and with a lock, parents can control who has access to the trampoline and when.

So in conclusion we are WAY different and damn proud!

Puppy Tweets – What’s next!! Does your pet have a Social Media Profile?

Springfree Trampoline loves Twitter, Facebook and any new media that allows us to talk to and get to know our customers.

puppy-tweets-2

But we are not the only backyard essential that loves talking on Twitter. Dogs do too! Yes you read right.

Mattel has released the ‘Puppy Tweets’ which is a little clasp that hangs from your dog’s collar and detects what it’s up and then automatically tweets it. Apparently it can detect 500 different activities and turn them into 140-characters like: “It’s not the catching of the tail, it’s the chase,” and “Guess what I’m licking right now.”

This will be a great little device for pet owners who worry what their pets get up to when they are not home! Wouldn’t it be great if you could automate a tweet when your dog is trying to escape “ha ha I’m off to terrorize the local cats”.

Will this toy be something you put in Rover Christmas Hamper this year? Or better yet does your dog have a social Media profile?

Kids who create in play grow to be healthier adults….

comppic

Research proves that children who engage in creative and active play may grow up to be healthier adults. I know it’s not the most ‘surprising’ revelation of recent times but these findings really bounced out at me since we are running the ‘Colour Me Crazy’ drawing competition at the moment which is all about encouraging your kids to express their creative side.

University of Ulster researchers surveyed 505 young adults who provided information about their health and their childhood play experiences. Four types of play were found to be associated in different ways with adult health. The kids who engaged in higher levels of play predicted good healthy habits such as eating a healthy diet and getting regular exercises.

Adults who had time limits on play as youngsters were more likely to be overweight and live a less-healthy lifestyle.

The study was to be presented April 14 at the society’s annual conference.

What type of creative things do you get your kids to do?

Bigger Smile = Longer Life! What makes you smile?

Justin our friendly Marketing Guy loves to smile!!

Justin our friendly Marketing Guy loves to smile!!

We have always known smiling is good for you. I created my own theory some time ago. Jumping on a Springfree™ Trampoline =Smiling = Happy = Healthy mind. Pretty Scientific I know!

But who would have thought that smiling can actually make you live longer.

Researchers at the Wayne state University in the US said that broader grins and wrinkles around the eyes reflect an underlying positive outlook on life that translates into better long-term health.

How did they come about this discovery? They studied 230 photographs of US major league baseball players who started playing before 1950 and grouped them according to their smiles.

Those with big smiles lived 80 years on average. Those with partial smiles lived 75 and the ones that were not smiling lived 72.9 years.

So in light of this discovery everyone should go out to the backyard and jump on your Springfree™ Trampoline!

What makes you smile?

Meal Time. A happy or stressful experience in your house?

The ‘meal time’ experience differs in all households. For some it can be an extremely stressful hour trying to make variety of healthy meals for three fussy kids. Sound familiar?

In a survey conducted by the Australia Institute of Sport and Nestle , 16 thousand Australian mums revealed widespread concern about their children’s diet and exercise levels.

Forty-Three per cent of the mothers said they tried to give their kids balanced diets but were finding it difficult. Ten Per Cent said that they were confused about what to serve up or couldn’t get their children to eat the healthy options.

The courier Mail gave some great tips by AIS Dietician, Greg Cox for feeding the family;

1. Plan your weekly meal

2. Keep pantry well-stocked

3. Involve the family in the cooking

4. Vegetables are important five serves for adults, a little less for children

5. Eat plenty of wholegrain including wholegrain wheat, brown rice, rye, unpearled barley and whole popping corn

6. Low-fat dairy foods are a great source of calcium

7. Present food to children in ways they find appealing

8. Make water the first option for mealtime drinks

What other tips do you have for mother alike?

Further more 36 per cent of mothers feared their kids weren’t getting enough physical activity. Ahmm… (Insert shame-less plug here) Springfree™ Trampoline! The only exercise that you can do in the convenience of your own backyard and you don’t have to bribe the kids to go jump! Quite the reverse actually, you will have to bribe them to come in at night for dinner. A healthy one of course

How do you control what your kids are doing on the Net?

Undefined

As parents how do you control what your kids are seeing and listening to online? Of course one giant step in the right direction is putting the computer smack bang in the family living room but is that enough?

Well new software programs are now available to help control your kids online life a little easier. A small Queensland company has developed software that gives parents control over how much time children are spending on Facebook. EducateMe lets parents set a limit of unrestricted computer use each day. Once your child has used up that quota they can only access educational sites that the parents have nominated.

The website www.123educateme.com.au says ;

“Educate Me operates as a countdown timer, showing the time until the child will be logged off. The time can be increased in the following ways with vouchers for doing chores, music practice and sport, or by completing educational challenges and puzzles. The clock will also be paused while the child is completely focussed on something chosen by the parent as educational.”

Do you think this is something your family would benefit from?
