What’s in a name?
We meet so many families at Springfree™ Trampoline events and we come across all sort of children’s names. Some interesting, some traditional and some really different.
Selecting names can be hard! Not just for children but for Trampoline models too! We ponder whether to call our Springfree™ Trampoline models funny names, give them personalities; describe them through distinct characteristics or just a number.
We’re sticking with the numbers, as they make sense in every language, in every country.
Which is something celebrity couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes can’t quite say about the name they chose for their daughter.
Did you know that the name Suri means ‘pickpocket’ in Japanese, ‘turned sour’ in French, and ‘horse mackerels’ in Italian? I wonder if they knew this whether they would have still chosen Suri?
Well, thanks to a London-based translation firm parents-to-be can check the meaning of prospective baby names in other languages to avoid inadvertently causing their offspring future embarrassment.
However there is one little, or should we say expensive, catch.
This service will set you back around GBP 1,000 to carry out a ‘basic translation audit’ of names, checking their meaning in 100 languages.
Not surprisingly, the firm expects this service to attract celebrity clients, and less attractive to the average parents to be, due to cost. Would love hear what you guys think about this type of service? Would you pay this amount just to check your perspective name?
I mean being called Horse mackerels is not THAT bad…is it?
